At around 18 months up to around three is when usually parents make the leap to put their little one in a bed. It can be a scary time for some, an exciting 'right of passage' for others. Or can just sail by for those easy going children (not many of those around in our experience!).
At this stage we recommend a Junior Bed, a purposely sized bed for a toddler. You could also just a get a single bed but they can be a bit intimidating for a small child and even though there are safety fittings out there to lower the risk of the child falling out the bed, they aren't always too reliable. There are a few of things to consider with a Junior Bed.
1.Design: as your little one might not want to leave the comfort of their cot getting a character design or fun coloured bed will lessen the blow.
2.Safety: At this stage it tends to be the case that children aren't very safety conscious! They'll think nothing of rolling and jumping off and all manner of eye cringingly dangerous activities.
3.Price and period of use: The bed will probably be used for at least two years so you don't want to pay a small fortune for the bed! It maybe used by a sibling or families children though. Also you could sell or donate the bed to someone else. Kidsaw beds are a popular option because they are so easy to put together as it locks together with no fixings and kids love them as they are bright and fun!
When your child has outgrown their Junior bed it is maybe time to consider a single bed or midsleeper. We don't always recommend a bunk bed or high sleeper is sought for this age due to safety concerns as at this age children tend not to worry about their safety and have been known to throw themselves of the top bunk just for fun.
